North, Miss Teschmacher, North!
Yessir, we had some dandy times on our tours this summer - perusing the French Quarter in New Orleans, playing at a sushi bar in Oxford, Mississippi, jamming with the Morells in Chi Town, Jay and Mark being mistaken for a gay couple as they ate crawfish and mangos on a blanket outside of Houston (go figure) - but our best times surely came courtesy of the landscape and people of northern Wisconsin. First our buddy Spoon took us fishing on Marengo Lake, where Rik landed this dandy Northern Pike. Then, after the last gig of the tour, Spoon escorted us to a sand bar on Lake Superior called Sioux Beach - where these southern boys watched in transfixed amazement as pearly-white, shimmering, undulating curtains of Northern Lights filled the sky and bedazzled us for at least an hour and a half. If that weren't enough, the big yellow half-moon rose over the water right in the middle of this most awesome spectacle. It's good to be a hillbilly band!
Well, if you haven't heard by now, and I'm sure most of you have, our double-live CD, "GIG," was finally released in early July. We won't bore you with the spiel again, but we are happy to report that the reviews from fans have been very enthusiastic.
We welcome a new member to the Big Smith team. Jonathan Paulie is handling our web orders and various other chores now, and is doing a fantastic job. If you order CDs online from us, you can expect improved service and a much quicker turn-around. Also, we have a new phone number for general, non-booking inquiries about all things Big Smith - give Jonathan a call at (417) 818-5141.
Visit our ever-evolving website and the new "What's New" page. It's a good way to keep up with us between newsletters.
Our last Chester's show was a non-smoking affair - both the band and the audience loved it. Expect more of these!
This newsletter is good through the end of 2002. Keep it on your fridge for reference. It will be 2003 the next time we write, so until then, spread the love, good people! Click here to go to the dates page and see the latest scheduled gigs.
